A Peak Services featured case study
Resurrecting an Australian icon
How the Waltzing Matilda Centre is being restored to its rightful place as an icon of Australia’s national history and social fabric.
The popular museum was lost to fire in July 2015, making headlines across the country. The place that honoured Australia’s unofficial national anthem was gone.
Peak Training Services Launches New Courses
In 2019, Peak's Training Services has seen councils' focus move to 'future-proofing' their regions, not only finding ways to reduce risk to their environment but also to their communities and council officers. With these ever-changing needs, we have developed three new and exciting courses to our already-large range of local government training offerings.
Hot-off-the-press, the BSB42315 Certificate IV in Environmental Management and Sustainability tailored to Climate Risk Management, is a nationally recognised qualification, commencing on 20 November. Developed by Sustainably, part of the Queensland Climate Resilient program, this course is suitable for local government and other public sector, project and operational officers and allied professionals working with the public sector. The course provides appropriate policy contexts and planning and implementation tools and resources under a structured Climate Risk Management Framework to confidently integrate positive actions to reduce risks and unlock opportunities presented by a changing climate.
Local government managers and senior policy makers will find the Three Day Climate Resilient Queensland Leadership Course to be held at LGAQ House from 30 October -1 November, provides a solid grounding in important principles and concepts associated with understanding and responding to climate related risks and opportunities within the Queensland and local government contexts. The course, a modified for managers Module 1 of the BSB42315 Certificate IV in Environmental Management and Sustainability tailored to Climate Risk management, will assist leaders to set high level policy strategic direction in response to the challenges and opportunities of a low carbon economy and changing climate. Completion of the course achieves credits toward the full Certificate qualification.
Peak has also developed an Armed Robbery Safety Awareness and Body Worn Cameras workshop. It’s safe to say Armed Robberies are no longer a “big city” event. The Armed Robbery Safety Awareness course is a two hour session focussed on council services where cash is transacted. This course helps staff safeguard themselves, their colleagues and the public who are often present in these locations.
Councils are increasingly committed to ensuring the safety of council officers and hence the use of body worn cameras is becoming increasingly prevalent, providing councils with an independent and objective resource to capture incidents and interactions between council officers and members of the community. Our half-day workshop provides Local Laws Officers with training on how to use body worn cameras to record images and sounds whilst performing duties within their role. This training will assist officers to moderate the behaviour of people present at incidents; improve officer conduct and professionalism; reduce the number of complaints against officers and improve the collection of evidence required for investigations.
Peak’s Training Services is committed to responding to the current and future needs of councils and works closely with them to ensure our training remains current and up-to-date with the ongoing requirements of the local government sector.
