Resurrecting an Australian icon
How the Waltzing Matilda Centre is being restored to its rightful place as an icon of Australia’s national history and social fabric.
The popular museum was lost to fire in July 2015, making headlines across the country. The place that honoured Australia’s unofficial national anthem was gone.
Renewable Energy Generation
In December 2016, Mackay Regional Council was looking to establish renewable energy generation plants. They invited expressions of interest (EOI) from experienced and resourced providers to identify projects for both small-scale and large-scale renewable energy generation. Council engaged Peak Services to assess the EOIs which included waste-to-energy and solar PV power solutions (with system sizes ranging from a few kWs to more than 20 MW). Peak was also engaged to interview large-scale solar plant EOI submissions on a set of criteria including technology generation performance and location, system size, revenues and/or savings to the council and funding model options. Utilizing its expertise in the renewable energy sector, Peak completed the assessments and made recommendations to council on progressing with small-scale solar (co-located solar plants to offset onsite consumption) plants.
Following recommendations from the assessment report, Mackay Regional Council elected to investigate the feasibility to install small-scale behind the meter solar plants and engaged Peak to undertake the structural and electrical assessments of 21 targeted sites, and report to council on suitability for solar installations. Peak completed all assessments and assisted the council to prepare tender documentation and complete the procurement. Based on Peaks’ recommendation, Mackay Regional Council selected the most suitable installer and awarded the project early May 2018, with installations scheduled to start shortly.
Mackay Regional Council was extremely pleased with the outcome, achieved through working closely with Peak staff, from the project feasibility study to awarding the project to installers. Due to the success of this project, council has referred Peak to another solar power project in Mackay
“I wanted to let you know that I do not believe we would have come as far as we have or had as good of an outcome without the assistance of Peak, and the work of Nayim and Mike. Nayim, in particular, has been excellent to deal with and nothing too much trouble, and in fact, I have referred Peak and Nayim’s work to the Showgrounds in Mackay who are looking at solar options.” Executive Officer, Office of Mayor, Mackay Regional Council.
