Our recruitment team continues to support councils, and in many cases it is business as usual, albeit with increased usage of video conferencing. We have seen an increase in the utilisation of our pool of ‘Interim’ candidates providing councils with continuity of service delivery, particularly where decisions surrounding permanent recruitment have temporarily been placed on hold. We have recently deployed several Interim CEO’s, Corporate Services and Works Directors, Finance and HR professionals into councils and expect demand for this service to increase in the coming weeks and/or months. To support this, we are ensuring we have the best possible pool of interim candidates available to councils.

When this pandemic passes the ‘War for Talent’ will begin in earnest.  Our role as ‘influencers’ and ‘consultants’ has never been more important, as we work closely with many councils to ensure our conversations are aligned with their business planning needs. Building a pipeline of appropriate candidates is one of the many tasks we are working on in collaboration with our clients. Whilst a start date may be conditional on individual circumstances, especially in terms of where a candidate may be located, the rest of the process can be easily facilitated - we can still interview, second interview, reference check and deliver an offer.

We understand HR Departments will be inundated with managing COVID-19 related tasks and we are here to provide additional support where needed. This can include screening services, reference checking and managing an application process including candidate communication.

‘Fortune favours the bold – look for the silver lining’, in times of great adversity many fables and idioms come to the forefront. Those that are bold and well-prepared, pave the path forward and are more likely to find that silver lining.
