Historical Revitalisation Project - Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council

Back

The iconic Ration Shed Museum provides a space for Cherbourg locals to share their stories with visitors and to see and experience what life was like for their community living under the Aboriginal Protection Act during the first half of the 20th century. The Ration Shed was the original building used for storage and distribution of daily food rations to residents under the Government Settlement.

To achieve the vision of healing and reconciliation through education of visitors and involvement of Aboriginal people in the management and delivery of the Museum’s activities, the Project saw a refurbishment of its main buildings and outside areas to create connectivity within the precinct, address accessibility barriers and enhance the safety of its community and visitors including amenities to improve the overall cultural experience and deliver financial sustainability to the Cherbourg community for the longer term.
