Secure Communities Partnership Program: Round 1 NOW OPEN!

Peak’s Grant Office is pleased to share that applications are open for Round 1 of the Secure Communities Partnership Program.

This program is an initiative of the Queensland Government’s Small and Family Business First Action Statement, offering targeted funding to support councils in creating safer, more vibrant small business precincts.

The Secure Communities Partnership Program provides funding to install critical safety and security infrastructure to help deter crime and improve the operating environment for small and family businesses.

With a program pool of $10 million availabe this round will be delivered via an application-based competitive funding program. Local councils can apply for grants of up to $400,000 per project, with a maximum of two projects per council able to be submitted (total potential grant funding of $800,000).

Co-Contribution Requirement

  • Tier 1–4 Councils under the Local Government Sustainability Framework must provide a 50% co-contribution toward the project.

  • Tier 5–8 Councils are not required to co-contribute but may do so voluntarily.

Eligible Projects

Projects must enhance business precinct safety and benefit local small and family businesses, such as:

  • CCTV and surveillance systems
  • Alarm and intercom systems
  • Perimeter security improvements: lockable fencing, gates, barriers
  • Outdoor security and sensor lighting
  • Bollards and visible deterrents
  • Security signage
  • Environmental design and landscaping for security

Eligible Locations

Projects must be located in areas where small and family businesses operate, such as:

  • Malls and business strips
  • Streets and walkways
  • Active transport spaces
  • Parks and recreation facilities adjacent to small businesses
  • Public small business hubs and community buildings
  • Shopping malls, access ways, and public toilet facilities

Council Consultation

Councils must consult with:

  • Local small business sectors to ensure project relevance and benefit.
  • Queensland Police Service (local Officer in Charge) to align projects with local crime trends and ensure positive community impact.
