Over the last month, the Grants team was very pleased to see the fruits of our labour with the announcement of successful projects under the Queensland Government’s 2022-2024 Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program (LGGSP).
Our team secured over $11.5 million for 10 councils, which is 13.5% of the total available funding, with 75% of our applications successful and receiving the total amount of funding applied for.
The 2022-2024 LGGSP is a competitive, application-based grant program available to all Queensland councils. The program aims to support councils deliver priority infrastructure and essential services, and provides for a broad range of eligible projects.
While the applications submitted were diverse, including Housing Infrastructure, Asset Replacement or Community Well-being projects, the successful applications all share some common themes. These include:
- Demonstrated direct alignment with the objectives of funding program objectives as well as State, regional and local priorities
- Clearly showing the project need and strategy synergies with condensed attachment of council documents, Asset Management Plans, meeting minutes, letters of support, regional plans and Queensland Government Strategies
- Project Plans that detail clear scope, outputs, outcomes, capability and capacity with an additional emphasis on identifying and mitigating current and emerging risks such as competition for materials, price increases, and ongoing COVID impacts
- A sound cost/benefit analysis, with qualified and quantified direct and indirect economic and community benefits
- Articulating how each project will promote sustainable investment.

As a competitive funding round, councils seek the support of Peak to ensure their LGGSP applications are well written, address the guidelines and application criteria, and to provide relevant and concise supporting documentation.
The Grants team demonstrated that those councils that have an ongoing Grants Management Service with Peak, had better supporting information and were better planned for these funding rounds.
Our team has a broad range of technical and advisory specialists who work together to develop the best possible application. We can access economic and cost/benefit analysis, environmental, waste and energy specialists, project planners, procurement experts, as well as accessing architects and quantity surveyors to mature projects ready for application.
